Robert Baker – Professional Bridge Tuition

Robert has been playing bridge competitively since the age of sixteen. He had success at both local and national level, and when he was 23 he became a Life Master of the English Bridge Union.

For the last five years Robert has been teaching bridge in the West of England. He has developed a unique series of computer-generated presentations on all aspects of the game. These have been designed to follow the syllabus of the English Bridge Union Teachers' Association, of which Robert is a Full Member. The first series of these presentations have now been purchased by the English Bridge Union and are to be used by some of their teachers as well as produced as a CD-Rom and marketed by the EBU.

As well as regular ten-week terms at Bath University, and 1-day and weekend courses at Urchfont Manor (near Devizes.) Robert runs a Monday night Bridge group at the Old Priory Hotel - Midsomer Norton, which is made up of players who have attended some of his classes and want to put into practice what they have learned.

He also provides Home Tuition for several groups of players who are keen to improve their game.

A new venture is a series of 1-day “Master Classes” which are held at hotels in the West of England. These cover specific areas of the game, and are an ideal opportunity for players to improve their understanding of these topics.

Robert’s teaching style is friendly and approachable, and he encourages players to think through how the bidding or the play of the hand will develop. The emphasis at all of the classes that Robert runs is on enjoying the game as well as improvement.
